Job description
Proposal Writers help sales teams create high quality client-focused proposals. The Proposal Writer will move quickly from learning and applying basic proposal writing and editing skills to contributing substantially to the development and quality of proposal responses, sometimes using reusable content from past bids. The proposal writer will ensure consistency of all client deliverables by assisting with written content and editing final content, as well as providing strategic editorial feedback on proposal content. In this role, they will guide various team members through the response process using current market and competitive intelligence research tools to enable them to clearly communicate impactful messages. They will work closely with a talented information design team where you will communicate messages across various social and multi-media that will resonate with clients.
The ideal candidate for this position will have relevant education or experience in business, sales, writing, and editing, as well as an understanding of information design principles. The candidate should have basic skills with office productivity software, such as the MS Office suite as well as experience delivering both written and visual messages across a variety of social and other digital media. The candidate should also have the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, meet demanding deadlines, and take ownership of assignments from start to finish. Other preferred experience includes personal participation on proposal teams, and professional-level writing projects. Desired skills span knowledge of graphics and document design, project management, and fluency in multiple languages.
Role:
Works with proposal teams to edit content / perform quality review on proposals
Collaborates with proposal section owners and subject matter contributors to assist in improving communications impact and proposal content quality
Builds skills and knowledge in a particular industry for industry relevant content
Finds and customizes intellectual capital to reflect specific client concerns and vendor selection criteria
Collaborates with other STS roles, including Bid / Proposal Managers, ICAP Specialists, Graphics and Information Design professionals
Interfaces with aligned IBM functions, (i.e. Contracts and Negotiations, Legal, Quality Assurance, Pricing, etc) and Brand Sales, Business and Technical personnel
Gathers knowledge of the proposed IBM solution and its associated client-specific value proposition, and develops concepts into technically accurate, client-focused, benefits-oriented proposal content and graphics.
Specific tasks:
Develop proposal sections and Executive Summary (or elements)
Perform editing and proofreading and perform quality reviews for client deliverables
Collaborate / communicate, participate in strategy sessions
Demonstrate leadership and work proactively with internal teams
Assist bid managers with Proposal Process / Manage Proposals
Gain client knowledge and business acumen / understand IBM business development strategies, brands, industries and key market plays
Apply IBM’s VDP (Value Driven Proposal) methodology
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 1 year experience in Strong oral and written communication skills
- At least 1 year experience in conveying messaging across many mediums (Word, Excel, Power Point, Infographics Adobe Illustrator, and social media tools)
- At least 1 year experience in having Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task
- At least 1 year experience in Performing editing and proofreading and perform quality reviews for client deliverables
- English: Fluent
Preferred
- At least 2 years experience in Strong oral and written communication skills
- At least 2 years experience in conveying messaging across many mediums (Word, Excel, Power Point, Infographics Adobe Illustrator, and social media tools)
- At least 2 years experience in having Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task
