JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Project Coordinator (Maternity Cover) Location: Nairobi, Kenya Reporting to: Kenya Programme Manager Key Relationships: Project Manager – Arms Control and Policing, Project Officers – Arms Control and Policing and Governance and Peacebuilding, M & E Officer, Finance Officer, Ops/ HR Manager. Contract Duration: 8 weeks – September – October 2014 Salary range: Kshs. 250,000 per month subject to taxation Description of Saferworld and Kenya programme: Saferworld is an international non-governmental organisation working to prevent violent conflict and help build safer lives. We work with people affected by conflict to strengthen national and international policies and practices so that they help build lasting peace. Saferworld works in Africa, South Asia, Central Asia, Europe and the Middle East and North Africa, and has its headquarters in London and with a regional office in Nairobi. As member of Saferworld’s Africa Programme and Kenya team the Project Coordinator will contribute to the development and implementation of Saferworld’s work in Kenya. He/she will work as part of the team in close cooperation with partners covering themes of governance and peacebuilding, security and justice and arms control in Kenya. The strategic directions of the Kenya programme are:
- To ensure that governance and peacebuilding structures adopt conflict-sensitive approaches to decision making and development that enhance peace and social cohesion
- To ensure security sector reforms result in changed practices, improved professionalism, greater accountability, and better service delivery to the public
- To empower communities to play an active role in keeping their communities secure and demand the inclusion of their security priorities in local, national and international policies
- To ensure gender dimensions of conflict and insecurity are understood and reflected in the policy and practice of peace, justice and security actors Job Purpose: To participate in the development and implementation of Saferworld’s Programme of work in Kenya, focusing on capacity building of partners. Key responsibilities: 1. 1. Facilitate the Organisational Capacity Assessments (OCAs) for Saferworld partners 2. Develop a format for OCA reports 3. Develop reports for partners following the OCAs 4. Undertake any other duties as may be assigned 5. Deliver comprehensive OCA reports for each of the partners indicating current capacity levels and agreed plans for addressing any capacity gaps PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential requirements:
- A Master degree in organisational development/ strategic management /development studies, or any other relevant degree
- At least 5 years relevant work experience in organisational development
- Experience in conducting organizational capacity assessments (OCAs) and developing plans to address the capacity needs
- Experience in developing organizational policies and systems
- A good understanding of peace, security, governance and conflict sensitivity programming
- A good understanding of workings of civil society in Kenya
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Ability to relate sensitively to diverse groups.
- Good written and spoken English and Kiswahili Desirable requirements:
