The UNOPS Kenya Operational Hub (KEOH) plays a critical role in providing management services-for its life-saving peace-building, humanitarian and development operations; supporting projects on behalf of a range of partners and creating real results that matter for people in need. KEOH is implementing projects worth more than$40 million in eastern and southern Africa and is helping its partners achieve project goals in sustainable project management, sustainable procurement, sustainable infrastructure, human resource management and advisory services


The UNOPS Kenya Operational Hub (KEOH), located in Nairobi, Kenya, spans across East Africa, covering Kenya,Somalia, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Eritrea. The Office is comprised of 150 personnel with the right mix of critical skills needed for effective services delivery.


KEOH implements projects in infrastructure, procurement, environment, health, grants management, financial management, human resources and advisory services. There are also several regional environmental projects that span across Africa and parts of Asia that are being managed by KEOH project managers.


Background Information – Job-specific


Under the guidance and supervision of the ICT Assistant, the ICT Support Assistant provides support on information technology related services and functions to UNOPS in managing its operations. In the discharge of her/his duties, the ICT Support Assistant liaises with UNOPS Programme Support Officers, Programme Managers and Project Assistants in order to ensure best support


Functional Responsibilities



  • Maintain and troubleshoot hardware problems in Desktops PCs,laptops,Printers,UPS,scanners and other computer related equipment and all categories of general ICT Helpdesk tasks requested by users of KEOH.

  • Network troubleshooting,handling configuration of new PC for the settings of the domain network and responding to user needs and questions regarding network access.

  • Work as first line Helpdesk staff in providing IT support and attend to end-users request and problems.

  • Configure and install software on new computers and laptops on arrival and co-ordinate with ICT Assistant in the resolution process of problems.

  • Provide technical support to Finance/Administration units in analyzing and processing telephone and other telecommunication bills.

  • Installation of hardware, network connections, cables and provide assistance to users for LAN and Desktop access.

  • Provision of support in KEOH Conference room (Assisting with on-line meetings ,interviews etc.)

  • Provide application software support for management in preparation of presentations ,reports etc.

  • Procurement of urgent and regular day to day needs of IT equipment and consumables.

  • Keeping and maintaining the updated inventory of all the ICT equipment,software licenses and generation of reports for audit purposes.

  • keeping records of the expiration of the warranties and coordinating with vendors for annual maintenance contracts if the need be.

  • Performance of maintenance and minor repairs on hardware equipment and liaise with external companies for repair and maintenance of equipment that cannot be maintained in-house.

  • Support on standard software applications – i.e. MS Office,MS Project,MS Visio, Outlook, etc.

  • Implementation of ICT and operational strategies

  • Supports ICT administration

  • Efficient and functioning telecommunications system

  • Support to knowledge building and knowledge sharing

  • Perform other related duties as required


Competencies



  • Thorough knowledge in Windows7/8 Operating System;

  • Thorough knowledge in MS Office applications and other related software

  • Thorough knowledge of LAN\WAN\WLAN configurations

  • Knowledge of UN rules and regulations and ICT practices

  • Able to work under pressure and cover deadlines

  • Sound organisational skills

  • Analytical skills to identify and troubleshoot technical issues

  • Interpersonal/Intrapersonal skills


Education/Experience/Language requirements



  • Secondary education required, Diploma or University Degree, preferably in information sciences, computer sciences or engineering desirable

  • 2 years of experience in working in the field of information technology and/or telecommunication.

  • Experience of serving within the UN system or international organisation will be an added advantage.

  • Fluency in written and oral English required. Knowledge of second UN language desirable.


Certifications



  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
