Job Profile Mott MacDonald’s international development division (IDD) seeks to identify experts with at least 8 years of professional experience in arid African countries for a feasibility study “Drought Resilience in Northern Kenya”. Part of the feasibility study will be context and target group analysis, peace and conflict assessment, institutional and stakeholder analysis, environmental and social analysis, economic analysis, risk assessment as well as preparing an implementation strategy with cooperation options, interventions areas, programme activities, budget and time schedule for three proposed projects.
The assignment will be for a period of 1 to 3 months starting in November 2014.
Job Description The International Development Division (IDD) of Mott MacDonald operates as three separate sub-divisions within the international development arena, two sub-divisions (IDE and IDB) are based in the Netherlands and the third (IDC) in the UK. Based on our joint expertise we are able to provide our customers with a broad range of international development services.
International Development Euroconsult (IDE) provides specialist assistance for any type or size of water and natural resources management project from formulation through to execution. Services range from one-man missions to multi-skilled teams, with the project period varying from a few days to several years.
IDD recruits for a wide range of project assignments in the area of International Development. We are involved in more than 90 projects in over 40 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. We work for international funding institutions such as the EU, World Bank, DFID and African and Asian Development Bank. We continuously tender for new projects and are frequently looking for additional/replacement staff on existing projects (long and short term).
Candidate Specification The candidate needs to have: * A Postgraduate (MSc and PhD) degree in a related field of expertise (e.g. NRM, pastoral livestock management, animal husbandry, water resources, irrigation, agro-economy, rural development, agricultural marketing); * Knowledge and experience in either livestock and rangeland management and marketing of livestock products, OR irrigation, water harvesting and water saving methods in (semi) dry areas, OR economic feasibility in agriculture and rural development; * At least 8 years of technical and practical work experience in one of the required fields; * International track record with experience in arid countries, preferably Kenya, Tanzania, Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Sudan. Previous work experience in Northern Kenya with pastoral societies is a clear asset; * Experience and proven track record in rural development and participatory methods (including participatory integrated development plans); * Excellent working proficiency in English, and preferably also German. Additional language skills in Swahili, Somali, Oromo, Rendille, Turkana or one of the other local languages in Northern Kenya is an obvious asset. Other relevant assets: * Experience with working with pastoral societies, including dealing with gender issues and complex social decision-making structures / conflicts; * Knowledge of legal, institutional and/or administrative aspects relevant to the topic / in the region; * Expertise in organisational analysis and partner/project executing agency assessment; * Expertise in conflict sensitive programme design and monitoring; * Experience in environment and climate change assessments.Candidates with the required profile are invited to apply direct via the careers website of Mott MacDonald,http://ift.tt/1mIhFY5.
