Job description



This position is responsible for public relations and will enable Imarisha to fulfill its mandate of coordination and monitoring of projects and activities in the basin, promoting SDAP and sustainable development, sharing knowledge and learning, providing information services, awareness creation, advocacy, reporting, publications and managing a database to support these tasks.


The communications manager reports to the CEO of Imarisha Naivasha and the job will be located in Naivasha.


Job description of Communications Manager



  • Lead development and implementation of the Imarisha Communications Strategy for delivery of corporate communication and to execute tasks to achieve the communications objectives, strategies and priorities.

  • Work with WWF and other IWRAP partners to implement and strengthen the IWRAP communication strategy;

  • Provide writing/editing expertise in areas such as speeches, publications, newsletters, releases, brochures, videos, on-line communication, email announcements and website management to maximize public awareness, information provision to stakeholders and promotion of Imarisha and IWRAP and their achievements.

  • Develop Imarisha initiatives for internal communications, Support internal communication within IWRAP and promote good partnership.

  • Maintain strong external media relations and identify and pursue opportunities for institutional promotion and information provision through radio, print media, TV and the Internet.

  • Lead Imarisha communication projects/activities and be responsible for working with other members of the team and partners (in IWRAP and beyond) to successfully implement communication projects/activities.

  • Documentation and sharing of programme results, experiences, lessons learnt and impacts of Imarisha and IWRAP activities and sharing information as appropriate.

  • Create rich and creative content of Imarisha website that is optimized for search engines and work with IWRAP partners to support their websites and ensure exchange of promotion and information among all websites

  • In liaison with appropriate experts ensure proper maintenance of the Imarisha database and Information Management System for public access and dissemination.

  • Ensure adequate exchange of information and linkages with regard to data and information gathered by other IWRAP partners and other relevant stakeholders in the basin. Promote and coordinate free exchange and access to information among all stakeholders.

  • Promote Imarisha and IWRAP to the public and relevant stakeholders at all levels. Promote corporate events and increase the visibility of Imarisha and IWRAP.

  • Performs any other duties as requested by the CEO Imarisha

  • Work with / relate to the Imarisha management team.

  • At least 5 years experience in communication, with proven experience with media contacts

  • Diplomacy, tact and sound judgment

  • Initiative and confidence to recommend new projects and foresee upcoming projects

  • Excellent oral, written and editing skills in English and Swahili

  • Strong ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously with efficiency and accuracy

  • Good listening and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent computer and social media skills, including being able to maintain and manage the content of a website.

  • Good understanding of the development, use and management of databases, as a tool for information management.


Desired Qualifications


At least a BSC degree in Communications or other related fields
