Location: Initially London with relocation to Nairobi or Johannesburg LOCAL TERMS ONLY

Drive high standards of corporate governance and the delivery of key priorities and initiatives aligned to the Group Corporate Secretariat’s (“GCS”) collective agenda across Africa. Through thought-leadership, proactive engagement and strong leadership oversee the implementation of high quality, efficient, effective and sustainable company secretarial practices and processes ensuring compliance with relevant Group policy, legislative and regulatory requirements.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Working closely with the Head of Regions, Subsidiary Governance in driving best practices on all aspects of subsidiary governance, including proactive advisory to the Regional Governance and Business Heads.

• Provide strong leadership and management over the designated Company Secretaries for the Group’s subsidiaries in Africa.

• Act as a “trusted advisor” to stakeholders providing high quality advice on board effectiveness, succession planning, inductions and director training, linkages between the Group and its subsidiaries as well as demonstrating thought leadership in respect to regulatory trends and developments.

• Responsibility for the ensuring all Company Secretaries across the Africa region are crystal clear on the Group’s corporate governance approach and requirements as well as providing assurance that the minimum standards are fully embedded and are being delivered efficiently to a consistently high quality and on a sustainable basis.

• Lead and/or provide support on GCS-related projects and initiatives as required.

• Drive and stimulate an environment where forward planning, prioritisation and deadline management lead to efficient work practices and streamlined functional activities and processes.

• Ensuring that GCS keeps pace with developing and emerging best practice, new legislation, regulatory and corporate governance developments, including preparation and drafting reports and papers on relevant matters, holding masterclasses for secretariat colleagues and advising relevant stakeholders.


Qualifications & Skills


• Be a qualified Chartered Secretary with in-depth company secretarial technical knowledge and experience.

• Experience of working within Financial Services or a fast paced UK listed company of substantial size and complexity.

• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

• Proven excellent organisational and planning skills are essential in this role.

• Possess the ability to identify and drive opportunities for continuous improvement.

• Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate/ influence senior management and stakeholders across different cultures.

• Possess a flexible and collegiate approach with the ability to contribute to building and maintaining a strong team environment.

• Ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure and manage tight deadlines.

• Reliable, self-motivated and proactive.

• Possess a common sense and commercial approach to problem solving.
