Orion Group Job Vacancy in Kenya : Field Social Performance Manager

In cooperation with company Site Supervisors/leaders, oversee and coordinate all field based social performance activities in support of exploration and appraisal, as well as early development planning.



  • Ensure that operational planning takes account of non-technical above ground risks, trends and events that may negatively affect company ability to execute the agreed (or proposed) work programme.

  • Social performance compliance oversight of company and Contractor field operations.

  • Provide social performance support to all departments in the pre-planning, construction of new well pads, camp locations, forward operating bases etc.

  • Input into work programme schedules, budgets and resourcing requirements.

  • Ensure that lines of communication and information flows are effective between respective sites and between site operations and Nairobi with respect to above ground risk mitigation.

  • Contribute to risk assessments and management planning as required.

  • Participate and contribute to functional audits / reviews (either internal or external).

  • Support and advise to initiatives owned by Social Performance, environmental awareness and local content which contribute to broader environmental and social performance management as requested.

  • Support company-hosted VIP and external stakeholder visits to site installations and other locations as requested


Leadership & General Management



  • Coordinate and collaborate with ask field-based functional teams including but not limited to operations, Civils, Drilling, EHS, Asset Protection, Facilities and Coordinate a Field-level Above-Ground Risk Group Meeting

  • Work with SP Administrator/Coordinator to ensure appropriate field level management systems for SP

  • Ensure awareness and application of relevant standards and procedures (e.g., safety, financial, etc)

  • Ensure field-based SP Department has adequate resources and coordinate utilisation of resources as required

  • Build local capacity through mentoring and coaching activities.

  • Maintain relations with key stakeholders as required

  • Support project development activities as required

  • Coordinate with functional managers and SP Manager on continuous/daily basis


Stakeholder Engagement & Grievance Management



  • Operational management of stakeholder engagement clusters and staff (including supervisors, officers and VSOs)

  • Operational management of agreed stakeholder engagement plans and stakeholder support for operational activities (seismic, drilling)

  • Operational management of dedicated FSEO assigned to Water Resources Management Unit (WRMU), grievance redress mechanism, Kapese IOB, etc

  • Managed SE response to field issues as required

  • Represent company at key engagements as requested.


Land Access and Resettlement



  • Operational management of Land Access and Resettlement activities and staff

  • Support of land access and resettlement activities undertaken to support operations including seismic, drilling, water, civils, etc.


Social Impacts



  • Operational management of Social Impact activities and staff

  • Support of social impact activities


Social Investment



  • Operational management of Social Investment activities and staff

  • Support of social investment activities


Skills & Experience



  • Experience in a project management, community relations, social performance, logistics or an operational role.

  • Strong track record in building successful relationships and securing alignment between multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience in relationship management, negotiations, and conflict resolution.

  • Solid understanding of international best practice/standards in social performance.

  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of Social Performance, Asset Protection and EHS issues affecting oil operations, including an ability to build a holistic picture of the key factors as they affect the company.

  • Proven track record of planning.

  • Ability to translate complex information into strong, easily delivered messages, including the ability to influence, inspire confidence and build trust at all levels.

  • Proven ability to manage complex matters in a transparent and inclusive fashion.

  • Ability to integrate non technical risks in into business and project planning as required.

  • Understanding of the UN Global Compact, Voluntary Principles, EITI, Equator Principles and other international standards.

  • Build and maintain a network of local stakeholders and informed parties.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Ability to manage conflict situations including conflict resolution and analysis.


The salary for this position is negotiable.
