Your challenge

As scientist you work in the Philips Africa Research team and responsible for creating community, end-user centric innovations and technical breakthroughs with major potential business impact and drive them to Philips business successes, protected by relevant intellectual property. You work in projects with both commercial and technical stakeholders and experts. Your challenge is transform knowledge based on needs and requirements into solutions, aligned with the Philips mission and prioritized against outside in focus.
Your responsibilities

Your key areas of responsibility are:
- Carry out industrial research on integrated primary healthcare solutions (healthcare services, off-grid energy, indoor/outdoor lighting, clean water, social, commercial and educational activities).
- Design integrated solution from principle selection to validation under real-life conditions.
- Design rules to scale up the solutions to other regions and markets.
- Contribute to a technology roadmap that leverages the local eco-system to speed up innovation to market.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating personal knowledge and expertise, in respect to innovation, new technical developments and quality, within your application areas.
- Maintains contacts with colleagues within and outside Philips, other R&D; centres and universities, in order to participate in strategic platforms and to keep track of new developments.
- Document well the research outcome in the form of IP, internal technical reports and quality publications, where applicable.
Your experience
- Hands-on application research experience, preferably in off-grid energy application in lighting and/or healthcare.
- Experience in primary and secondary healthcare in rural Africa.
- Experience in working in project teams.
- Proven track record in hands on experimentation to deliver real-world results
Your skills
- Masters or engineering degree in applied sciences, e.g. electronics, physics or mechanics.
- Specific knowledge of and experience in integrated design and IT.
- Hands on experimental research, knowledge of and ability to setup appropriate experimental conditions
- Experience in cross-discipline co-operation (e.g. mechanics, electronics, IT).
- Ability to combine theoretical modeling and experimentation to optimally execute research projects.
