About You


You aspire to become a leader in impact investing by tackling global issues, from preventing malaria to access to education to economic growth, ensuring no population is left behind. You enjoy working with teams to tackle challenging problems while traveling and working across continents and cultures. You excel in solving problems using rigorous financial analysis, and you want to put your skills to work – lighting villages in Africa, funding start-ups, enriching the world’s food supply, and transforming the organizations that fund change. You are a passionate, committed self-starter with an excellent academic record, experience as a ‘top-performer’ in a leading asset management, investment banking, or other financial services firm pre-graduate school, a passion for impact investing, and an entrepreneurial spirit.


Qualifications :



  • MBA or Master in Finance from a top-tier university;

  • Minimum three years of relevant work experience, including in the field of finance (buy-side experience such as in private equity or venture capital highly preferred) and preferably with some emerging market experience;

  • A good understanding of issues related to private sector development in emerging markets;

  • Demonstrated capabilities in financial modeling and quantitative analysis;

  • Ability to manage a number of work-streams concurrently and semi-independently in a dynamic, entrepreneurial work environment;

  • Strong interpersonal skills;

  • Fluency in English required, working business proficiency in French preferred.


What You Will Do and How You Will Grow


Summer Investment Associates drive the creation of innovative and results-oriented solutions for D. Capital and our clients – helping us change the development landscape around the world. Summer Investment Associates conduct in-depth analysis of potential social venture / venture philanthropy opportunities, including market analysis, due diligence, modeling and valuation of potential investments. Summer Investment Associates also conduct research on and participate in ideation of innovative finance structures that channel funds to development programs.


In addition to providing training, partner-level advising, and mentoring, we empower Summer Associates to learn by doing, engaging them as full members of project teams from day one. Our recent Summer Associates have due diligenced a bioenergy company in South Africa, supported the design of a development impact bond, structured a fund to sustain program spending for Ugandan village health workers, advised on acquisition valuation for an East Africa beverages company, and more.

The Summer Investment Associate role is a 10 week program. As a Summer Associate you will have the opportunity to better understand what it would be like to work at D. Capital full-time.


Our current opportunities are in Nairobi, Johannesburg, Washington DC and London. Favorable consideration will be given to a pplicants who are willing to move to Nairobi or Johannesburg after graduation, should an offer be made. Please submit your application by 12:01 am EST on January 12, 2014.

Selected candidates will be invited to interview via phone in the first round. Interviews will test modeling and investment analysis skills through case interviews that are tailored to the type of work we do, as well as discuss the candidate’s interests and experience.
