Accountant

Primary purpose of the role Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, and with one assistant reporting to them, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and the treasury function, including foreign exchange; the Accounting Manager has to have extensive experience in ERP systems and will be expected to become a super-user of the newly implemented Agresso ERP. Typical duties and responsibilities: Supervise the correct booking into the accounting system, reconcile payables and ensure that outstanding items are regularly cleared Prepare payments using electronic banking, cheques and bank transfers to ensure accurate and timely payments; Prepare bank and other reconciliations; Prepare monthly management reports; Manage year-end closing, including prepayments and accruals, year-end adjustments, trial balance and annual financial statements; Manage treasury and prepare cash flow reports; Support non-finance staff with input of requisitions and travel claims in Agresso Accounting System; and Supervise the Accounting and Procurement Associate. Essential qualifications & competencies: Accounting qualifications; Minimum three years of relevant experience; Excellent communication and reporting/drafting skills in English; Demonstrated self-direction, judgment, and initiative. Terms and conditions: The Accountant will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, and will be contracted by the AFRIPC for a period of one year.
