Our client is a leading player in the automotive industry. They seek to hire an electrical engineer to lead the development and test of vehicle electrical systems both in-house and with partner suppliers.
Job Purpose: Support the rollout of electrical products into the production environment.
The role will require a close working relationship with other Engineers and departments for initial design & integration, component sourcing, evaluation, production to review current electrical component and system issues and additionally work with the R&D workshop staff during vehicle builds to assist in the electrical system integration.
Technical Engineering
- Create and maintain electrical schematics and harnesses and perform circuit analysis.
- Identify and specify new electrical parts and work with sourcing team to evaluate suppliers.
- Develop and maintain Electrical Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
- Define hardware test software, if needed. Create and maintain a hardware verification plan and performance document.
- Ensure electrical design is compatible with mechanical design and manufacturing processes as well as maintaining feasibility of engineering approach for low volume production tooling and limited in-country resources.
- Support interior and exterior electrical design layout and review.
- Build, provide and archive electrical test harnesses, simulators, exercisers and loads for validation.
- Review and revise engineering and/or production processes in response to feedback from colleagues, safety concerns, quality issues, loading requirements etc.
- Provide electrical system technical support during vehicle builds ensuring high quality standards throughout the build; develop test procedures and conduct tests using software packages and physical testing methods.
- Identify, create solutions, and resolve technical design conflicts collaboratively with Design Engineer, Quality Engineer and Cost Engineer.
Project Management
- Lead and facilitate engineering review sessions; revise approach with stakeholder feedback.
- Take ownership of electrical system projects; plan milestones, timelines, budgets, resources and identify potential risks to deliver engineering aspects within agreed completion dates.
- Be proactive regarding task completion and periodically advise wider team on project status, timing, resources, issues, and ability to deliver on-time
- Ensure adherence and compliance to general automotive industry engineering standards and best practices; maintain structured and versioned data outputs daily and backup data weekly.
- Work as an active member of the team, ensure effective communication between colleagues and positively contribute regularly to meetings and briefings.
Qualification & Skills
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or minimum higher diploma in electrical engineering
- 3.4 GPA or higher from a top university
- 1-2 years of automotive-related experience, preferably on a vehicle build project
- Ability to read and write electrical schematics
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA or AutoCAD
- Passion for prototype development and a pragmatic attitude
- Ability to adapt to a dynamic working environment and work within a diverse team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- High level of analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to follow a design from initial requirements definition through test and delivery
- Ability to self manage; taking ownership of projects: budgeting, work planning, resource management and reporting
