POLICY AND YOUTH ADVOCACY OFFICER Description To deliver policy change for young people in their communities, country and at the international level. o At least 2 years of relevant work experience in Advocacy, Child Rights and adolescent girls programming. We work worldwide to ensure that all children are healthy, safe, well-educated, and economically secure by engaging communities, and informing and influencing decision-makers. The organization is seeking to recruit for the position Policy and Youth Advocacy Officer, to be based at the Country Office, Nairobi on full time terms. The post holder will be reporting to the Advocacy and Governance Advisor Purpose of the Job and Key Responsibilities: o To deliver policy change for young people in their communities, country and at the international level, through supporting youth policy advocacy on post 2015 development Agenda. o To support us work with young people in Kenya particularly adolescent girls as positive agents of change in influencing government s position to ensure that Adolescent girls issues are embedded in the design, content and implementation of the Post-2015 framework . o To work closely with the Advocacy and Governance Advisor and project teams at the Country Office and Program Units to create a platform for adolescent girls to not only play a part in designing and influencing the content of the Post 2015 framework, but to engage in holding their governments to account for the implementation and governance of the framework in the long-term. o To enable a girl-focused contribution to national Post 2015 discussions and policy making and influence governments to be supportive of girls declaration. o To mobilize girl advocates, partners and stakeholders to participate more effectively in policy and advocacy processes from community to international level with a focus on working within the UN Post 2015 advocacy processes. Educational Qualification, Knowledge & Experience: o Bachelor s Degree in Development related field preferably International Human Rights, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Gender & Development, Political Science, and Public Policy Administration. Master s degree will be added advantage. o At least 2 years of relevant work experience in Advocacy, Child Rights and adolescent girls programming. o Strong knowledge of participatory approaches to policy change. o Understanding of the structures, processes and trends in the Kenyan political system. o Good understanding of the processes by which you achieve policy change and how to gender sensitive conduct power and political analysis. o Engaging with governments and/or multilateral institutions especially at National level. o Previous experience in working in policy analysis, advocacy, and youth participation in decision making or working with children o Experience of capacity building of young people and networks with regards to developing and implementing policy, advocacy and youth engagement strategies.
