Organizational Setting and Reporting


The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. UNON supports programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the Human Resources Management Services (HRMS), within the Staff Development & Training Unit (SDTU), UNON at the Nairobi duty station.


Responsibilities


Under the supervision of the Chief Staff Development and Training Unit, the incumbent will:



  • Assist in the organization and conduct of training courses and workshops; Provide logistical and administrative support to trainers.

  • Provide assistance in support of planning and implementation of activities/processes for complex and broad training initiative.

  • Research, compile, analyze, summarises and present basic information/data on training programmes.

  • Launch announcements of training courses and follows up on training.

  • Create online surveys for needs assessment and evaluation.

  • Prepare power-point presentation for data collected in course evaluation surveys.

  • Compiles statistics on all training matters.

  • Assist in preparation of training matters.

  • Monitor progress and effectiveness of the courses.

  • Maintains training-related automated systems and applications.

  • Produce and distributes courses certificates.

  • Responsible for Performance Management and Information Technology training.

  • Ensure training manuals and materials are available.

  • Oversee maintenance of computers and state of training room.

  • Provide general office support services.

  • Perform budget preparation, input monitoring and implementation in Integrated Management Information Systems.

  • Maintain files; Schedules appointments/meetings and monitor deadlines.

  • Prepare written response to queries concerning training related matters.

  • Train and provide supervision to new and lower-level staff in the unit

  • Perform other related duties in human resources as may be assigned.

Education


Completion of secondary school education or equivalent is required. Additional technical qualifications in the fields of administration and training are desirable.


Work Experience


Seven years of progressively responsible experience in large office preferably within the UN system including 3 years in training and administrative services or other related area.


Languages


English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in spoken and written English is required. Working knowledge of other UN official languages is desirable.


Assessment Method


Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
