Position Responsibilities


The Business Development Manager will be tasked to grow the East Africa territory for SunGard’s region prioritized solutions by developing sales strategies that will include generating new clients, new business, developing add-on business from selected client portfolio as well as reflecting input activity in SunGard’s sales and prospecting tools.


This position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya with frequent East Africa travel and report directly to the Head of Sales for the Sub-Saharan Africa Region and report on a virtual line to the Country Manager for East Africa. Initial focus will be on Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda.

The Business Development Manager is expected to contribute to:



  • Perform territory market intelligence and Financial Services industry profiling to support prospecting and sales activity. Verticals to be considered would include Capital Markets, Insurance, Corporate Liquidity, Asset Management

  • Build and develop C-Level relationships to enhance SunGard’s opportunity in the region

  • Maintain and promote awareness of market and industry trends to support SunGard’s growth market acceleration initiatives

  • Develop regional and account based sales strategies based on market intelligence and trends

  • Support the regional sales force in developing new regional and account pipeline

  • Support the ongoing regional and account based sales processes

  • Support the regional sales force to acquire new clients through prospecting and cold calling

  • Service new regional and account pipeline generated

  • Service existing accounts to maintain retention as well as to develop add-on and new business opportunities

  • Participate in sales calls and client site visits to determine opportunity extent and to align SunGard resources appropriately to maximize engagement towards deal closure

  • Input and maintain business development activity within sales database (i.e. Salesforce.com)


Position Requirements


Successful applicants will have a strong academic profile, will be able to demonstrate strong career progression in past roles and be able to demonstrate strong experience in all of the following:


Essential Skills:



  • Solid knowledge of the Financial Services Industry, with at least 5 years’ business development and sales experience into Sell side/Buy-side Financial Institutions.

  • Proven business development and sales experience serving the financial services and/or technology community with focus on Treasury, Risk Management, Reconciliation, Insurance or Asset Management solutions

  • Prior business to business development and sales and client relationship management experience

  • Proven track record of closing business in strategic accounts and achieving assigned sales quota

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – Ability to persuade and influence

  • Capacity to develop and deliver presentations, ability to create, compose and edit written materials

  • Maintaining professionalism and projecting a positive image of the company

  • Experience in interacting at executive and senior level with various business partners across the organization

  • Fluent English, written and verbal language skills, plus additional language, such as Swahili would be a plus

  • This position will require extensive travel into East Africa
