Background: A firm that provides audit, accounting, legal, tax and business consulting services is looking to hire a Junior Accountant for its office in Kenya.
Role Purpose: The Junior Accountant will primarily be responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements.
The Junior Accountant will specifically be responsible for the following:
- Documenting financial transactions by entering account information;
- Processing petty cash;
- Processing payroll;
- Performing general ledger reconciliations;
- Preparing and submitting statutory returns i.e. PAYE, Withholding Tax;
- Preparing and submitting monthly management accounts;
- Conducting debtor and creditor reconciliation;
- Summarizing current financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports;
- Substantiating financial transactions by auditing documents;
- Maintaining financial security by following internal controls;
- Preparing payments by verifying documentation, and requesting disbursements;
- Complying with local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; and
- Visiting clients where work is completed on their premises.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance;
- CPA will be an added advantage.
- 2-3 years’ experience in Accounting from a reputable organisation;
- Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Suite applications;
- Knowledge and experience in using Accounting Software packages such as Pastel, Sage, Quick books;
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles;
- Ability to work in team environment and make an enthusiastic contribution;
- Ability to pay attention to detail and accuracy;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Should possess planning and organizing skills;
- Excellent time management skills;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Must be presentable; and Possess entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen.
