Organizational Setting and Reporting


The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations systems designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI) communicates UNEP’s core messages to all stakeholders and partners, raising environmental awareness and enhancing the profile of UNEP worldwide. This post is located in UNEP/DCPI at the Nairobi duty station.


Under the guidance of the Director and the supervision of the Senior Public Information Officer, the Chief of Brand Building is responsible for the effective and efficient performance of the following duties


Responsibilities



  1. Management and Oversight: Directly implement, manage and oversee the section’s work and its human and other resources, in accordance with the organisation’s policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Deliver on other projects or tasks as assigned by the Office of the Director.

  2. Strategy and innovation: Develop and maintain the organisation’s brand strategy and provide overall strategic direction to the work of the section through a sustained innovation and research strategy that delivers the mandate of the section on associated industry practices, techniques, and approaches;

  3. Brand guardianship, compliance and risk management: Manage the organisation’s brand, ensuring the development, implementation, and oversight of appropriate brand guidelines, policies, tools, and protocols designed to enhance UNEP’s goals and mitigate relevant risks. Build internal capacity for, and understanding of, branding concepts and policies and brand execution;

  4. Planning, monitoring, and assessment: Plan, monitor, and assess the organisation’s brand and the section’s work in the context of UNEP’s brand and communication strategies and the Division’s project commitments to UNEP’s Programme of Work and its Medium Term Strategy;

  5. Resource mobilisation: Mobilise and manage resources and strategic partnerships for the Division and for the organisation’s communication interventions including in the Programme of Work. Develop and implement the Division’s fundraising and partnerships strategies and manage donor relationships;

  6. Reporting and communication: Ensure timely and comprehensive analysis, reporting and documentation as per client, Division, corporate, and donor requirements.

Education



  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communications, marketing, social sciences or other related field.

  • A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.


Work Experience



  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible work experience in programming corporate communications and information or a related field is required.


Languages



  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

  • For this post, fluency in written and spoken English is required.

  • Working knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.


Assessment Method



  • Evaluation of qualified candidates for this position may include a substantive assessment which will be followed by a competency-based interview.
