Purpose of the Position


Under the general supervision of the Chief of Nutrition Section, the incumbent is responsible for the programme design and implementation, evaluation of nutrition capacity development programme activities, data analysis and progress reporting.


Key Expected Results



  1. Collects and analyzes programme data programme/project planning, management, and monitoring and evaluation purposes for the nutrition capacity development programme. Analyzes programme implementation data, reports and evaluates in relation to prioritization of capacity development efforts and promotion of programme learning. Reports the outcome of analyses and proposes corrective capacity development actions.

  2. Undertakes ongoing visits to UNICEF project sites, assesses local conditions and resources, and monitors UNICEF capacity and human resource development inputs. Develops systems on use of nutrition M&E data for improving programme quality and capacity of nutrition programmes and partners. Communicates with local counterpart authorities on project feasibility and effectiveness, including the flow of learning, training and development inputs

  3. Undertakes follow-up actions on capacity development programme implementation activities and supports zonal offices and Governments with human resource capacity development for nutrition at the regional and district levels and prepares reports. Drafts changes in the programme work plans, as required. Adjusts learning approaches such as supportive supervision, mentoring and monitoring for Government and partner staff

  4. Attends technical cooperation meetings, prepares notes and undertakes follow-up actions related to nutrition capacity development programme implementation.

  5. Selects and compiles training and orientation materials for those involved in programme implementation. Efficiently uses information on quality, coverage and compliance of nutrition programme to target human resource capacity development efforts in the nutrition sector.

  6. Assists in the preparation of the country programme recommendations by drafting CPSS, PSS and other relevant documentation, ensuring adherence to established rules and regulations. Maintains an information system and database to set priorities for learning, training and development approaches and submits necessary reports.

  7. Evaluates and analyzes financial and supply reports to ensure that expenditures are within allotments and data is consistent with VISION/PIDB. Reports to the supervisor and/or head of the office, detailing the outcome of reviews.

  8. Drafts relevant sections of reports (required for donors, management, annual reports, Sitreps etc.)and documents lessons from capacity development efforts.


Qualifications of Successful Candidate



  • Advanced university degree in International Nutrition, Public Health, or a technical field related to the work of UNICEF.*

  • Three years of relevant work experience in project administration, monitoring and evaluation, and capacity development.

  • Fluency in English and another UN language.

  • Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station would be an asset.

  • A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
