On July 28, 2014, United States President Barack Obama announced the creation of four Regional Leadership Centers in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa as part of his Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). Beginning in 2015, these Centers will improve the availability and quality of leadership training programs and professional development opportunities for young African leaders. Each will be run as a public-private partnership, capitalizing on the energy and dynamism of the private sector, the knowledge of African and American institutions, and the programmatic and educational resources of the U.S. Government. The Centers will focus on engaging young leaders from a wide range of organizations and backgrounds and with a diversity of experiences. The Regional Leadership Centers will:



  • Provide Quality Leadership Training: Centers will provide both long and short courses on leadership and issues across multiple sectors.

  • Support Entrepreneurship: Centers will provide entrepreneurship support services, including mentoring, technology, and access to capital.

  • Enhance Professional Networking: Centers will offer young leaders the opportunity to connect with each other, American professionals, and experts from across the region.


Learning/Curriculum Director


Reporting to COP/MD, will continuously improve RLC participant outcomes through the seamless integration of faculty experience and wisdom with curriculum development process. Curriculum and programs will be regularly evaluated using a comprehensive assessment system. Will work closely with instructors and RLC leadership to design and roll out a curriculum that provides participants with a high quality program. S/he will lead research and incorporate current trends and data into the standard track curriculum taking into consideration the application of technology – e.g., webinars, podcasts, etc. – into the instructional methods. S/he will update training documents on a consistent basis and work closely with subject matter experts to evaluate and revise training tools as appropriate.


The L/C will provide leadership for the planning, development and production of curriculum materials, processes and best practices that are evaluated and acknowledged to be highly effective in improving outcomes. The L/C will also strive to have the most sought after professional development program for RLC instructors and staff.


L/C Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree and teaching certification, required; Master’s degree in Education Administration or in Curriculum & Instruction, preferred.

  • 8 years’ experience, with minimum of 3 years in program/curriculum development and 2 years’ experience managing or supervising others. Prefer, 7-10+ years of teaching experience and 3-5 years of experience training, mentoring and coaching teachers. 4 years of experience in East Africa or sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design and development of curriculum, including the delivery of virtual content, group work, gender relevant material, and attentive to the needs of disabled participants.

  • Knowledge of social networking and deliver of content using such tools.
