Organizational Setting and Reporting


The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is committed to achieving health,security and justice for all by tackling threats from illicit drugs, organized crime, corruptionand terrorism worldwide. UNODC provides legal and technical assistance in a variety ofchallenging areas, such as preventing and countering corruption, trafficking in drugs, persons, and firearms, money laundering and terrorist financing, among others. UNODC also works to prevent and treat drug dependence and HIV and AIDS. The post is located in the Regional Office of Eastern Africa (ROEA), Mombasa duty station.


Responsibilities


Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Officer and the overall guidance of the ROEA Regional Representative, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties within the Coastal Region in Kenya:



  1. Provide support and assistance by developing, implementation and evaluation of core activities of the HIV and AIDS combination prevention.

  2. Provide technical support in the design, implementation and documentation of all advocacy and communication efforts.

  3. Facilitate the adaptation of a tailored communication and advocacy strategy.

  4. Facilitate structured advocacy meetings and campaigns and prepare education and training material.

  5. Provide administrative support towards organizing advocacy events.

  6. Facilitates capacity building of Community Service Organisations (CSOs) and implementing partners.

  7. Participate in field monitoring missions in collaboration with other stakeholders.

  8. Participate in joint work planning and budgeting, implementing and reporting with the UN Joint Team for HIV and AIDS.

  9. Assist in the preparation of background documents, media articles, newsletters, documentaries, quarterly and annual progress reports and publications.

  10. Perform any other related duties as may be assigned.

Education


A first-level university degree in public health, medical field , development studies or a related field.


Work Experience


A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in health, social work or a related field.


Languages


English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency in oral and written English and Kiswahili is required.


Assessment Method


Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
