ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


The Loisaba Project Manager is responsible for managing a process to establish project documents including: conservation plan, community development plan, communications plans, security plan, marketing plan, tourism development plan, governance plan (board and advisory committee). The Project Manager will work closely with TNC Africa Conservation Director and TNC Africa Operations Director to ensure that Loisaba’s operations meet TNC’s requirements and needs. The Project Manager will work very closely with the Loisaba CEO and partners to help manage the Loisaba Board of Directors. S/he will be responsible for key discussions with fundraising trips and help with all aspects of making Loisaba a sustainably run conservation area and a model of success in east Africa.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE



  • Responsible for coordinating the development of a conservation plan, community development plan, communications plan, security plan, marketing plan, tourism development plan, governance plan (board and advisory committee).

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining budgets for the tourism development and operational support from TNC

  • Establish and maintain optimal standards of performance for Loisaba

  • Builds cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals

  • Frequently makes independent decision based on analysis, experience, and judgment.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.

  • Experience developing partnerships (partners, community, donors).

  • Experience fundraising.

  • Negotiation skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Tourism development and management experience helpful.

  • 5-7 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated experience influencing, developing and implementing conservation and operational plans.

  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.

  • Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives.

  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising.

  • Politically savvy and experienced in partnership development (partners, community, government)


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT



  • May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
