This role reports to the Head of Brand Change &Technical – KBL


Context/Scope: EABL operates within a multi-cultural, multinational, multi currency environment. EABL comprises five business units: KBL, EAML, CGI, SBL and UBL. EABL is categorised into Demand and Supply. The Supply business is involved in production of beer and spirits. The Demand business is involved in marketing and selling the product. The Innovations / renovations are seen as the key drivers in providing aggressive top-line growth and increasing bottom-line results. The overall goal of innovations / renovations is to assist EABL’s growth into new markets, improve quality, extend EABL’s product range, improve production processes and make cost savings. Spirits in particular is a portfolio that has been identified to deliver significant growth and profitability to the EABL business going forward and will play a leading role in the innovation agenda.


Purpose of the role: Accountable to the business for the effective liquid spirit development through to packaging innovation and renovations, process improvement/ issue resolution and manufacturing compliance for EABL’s brands. Partner with suppliers with the aim of improving and sustaining the quality of supplied materials.


Market Complexity: Interfacing with all of the markets in which EABL operates including emerging markets as well as a high level of cultural awareness and influencing skill.


As this is a brand change role, a high degree of ambiguity is the norm and creating possibilities and finding solutions are critical capabilities.


Ensuring that all technical problems (both internal and external) are resolved effectively and in a timely manner to avoid loss of production


Top Accountabilities:




To identify the optimum supply solution for all Spirits development innovation projects, managing the pipeline, serving as a single point of contact for Supply while managing relationships and ways of working with Technical Centers and other Brand Teams during the life time of a project.




Ensure all projects are managed successfully delivering in full with no quality incidents, while maximizing EABL value.




Lead Spirits development projects from conceptualization through to commercialization and launch, taking full accountability for the technical project deliverables, working in partnership with Diageo Supply, EABL Supply Centers and CAPEX scoping engineers. Roll out such projects to supply.




Co-ordinate plant trials on new processes / raw material with a view of cost cutting and or quality improvements to give the group a competitive advantage in the market.




Compare plant capacities with sales requirements with a view of identifying additional and or surplus plant.




Deliver all work to agreed standard on time and within budget while at all times complying with Health and Safety requirements and Good Manufacturing Practice




Together with procurement and legal team ensure that all contracts embody a quality clause that addresses material quality so as to ensure compliance to EABL quality specification




Examine and recommend feasibility of systems changes from Process redesign




Continuously improves processes, documents results and shares with colleagues.


Qualification & Experience:




Degree in a scientific discipline




At least 3 years’ experience in a Brewing Technical / Supply Chain role.




High commercial and financial awareness.




Portfolio management experience ensuring delivery of a large portfolio of projects.




Understand consumer insights and seeks out support/ advice from colleagues to deliver fit-to-concept liquids




Knowledge and experience of implementing best practice process improvement and leveraging business functionality of SAP is an added advantage
