Organizational Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN Headquarters in Africa and the
representative office of the Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative,
conference and information services (www.unon.org). This post is located in the UNON, Treasury Services Unit (TSU) of Budget and Financial Management Service (BFMS).
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Chief, TSU, the incumbents will be responsible for the following:1. Process payments, receipts and other remittances: Receive and analyze payment vouchers to verify correctness of banking details, funding, amounts etc; Create disbursement documents in the Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) and process payments, either as bank transfers or cheques; Obtain signatures from authorized signatories and ensure dispatch of payments, as well as notify payees through payment advices. Maintain records of all processed payments/vouchers; Follow up on any delayed, unaffected or reversed payments through written communication with banks and payees; Make cash and cheque deposits in the Organization’s bank account(s); Create official receipts and deposit documents in IMIS according to documents received from substantive offices. Coordinate with these substantive offices regarding unmatched or unidentified deposits. 2. Monitor and Forecast Cash Flow: On a daily basis, monitor bank balances and statements for assigned accounts, to avoid overdrafts and to enable investment of surplus funds; Analyze the actual versus forecast Cash Flow and prepare draft Cash Flow forecasts for assigned accounts on a monthly basis; Liaise with various offices in UNON, UNEP and UN-HABITAT on forecasts, projected receipts and disbursements. 3. Maintain databases in IMIS: Receive and scrutinize requests to create and maintain Vendor and Third Party bank records, and create/maintain the same in IMIS; Create and maintain payment instructions for salary transfers. 4. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training in the field of accounts/finance is desirable. Good computer skills (Microsoft Office Windows applications), proficiency in MS Excel and knowledge of accounting software required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five yearsof progressive responsible experience in a large computerized accounting environment.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertized, fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of a second UN language is desirable.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which will be followed by competency-based interview.
